Our campaign against school closures in May 2020 marked the birth of UsForThem.
We threatened to take legal against against the Government for closing schools, and in so doing attracted a group of thousands of likeminded parents, grandparents, teachers and carers fighting for the reopening of schools. We would like to hope that it was at least in part thanks to our campaign that school closures in the UK, although still incredibly damaging for children, were significantly shorter than in some other countries, including notably the USA.
The school closures of January 2021 marked a particularly low point in the UK’s woefully anti-child lockdown response. At this point, we energised and focused a groundswell of parent anger at the damage being done to our children, in response to union and political pressure for needless school closures.
