Subject: Please attend Rob Halfon MP’s Backbench Debate on Education and Mental Health Recovery – Thursday 3rd February

Dear [[MP]],

As a parent, I have been devastated to see the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic response on children and young people’s education and mental health. Lockdowns and school closures led to a widening of the attainment gap, a worsening mental health crisis, a rise in safeguarding risks and a negative effect on young people’s life chances.

I am aware that as part of the nation’s recovery from COVID-19, the Government have established a number of education schemes. However, as a society, it is surely our foremost responsibility to make sure that we are now harnessing a national will to put children first- in deeds not just words – given the huge and disproportionate impact they have borne. I personally do not believe these programmes go anywhere near far enough, and welcome Robert Halfon’s efforts to elevate these issues up the political agenda.

Please will you, therefore, represent parents and children by attending or even speaking at this vital debate? It will take place at 11:30 am on Thursday 3rd February. Details of the debate timings are here:

The debate will consider the efficacy of these programmes, the Government’s spending priorities as well as consider additional mechanisms and interventions which could be implemented to better support children’s educational recovery and wellbeing.

Please confirm your attendance in support of parents and children in your constituency.
